Some background first. One Sunday near noon time, we noticed the "A" sign outside the middle school near our neighborhood with the sign "Grace Presbyterian Church" pointing into the school campus. Huh, since when did a church had worship services at this school where we passed by almost on daily basis? So I googled this church's website and found some interesting background -- for example, the fact that the pastor came from Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York. So, we visited this church on this Sunday to worship. First of all, the familiar campus made us feel at home, and the fruits, bagels, and coffee outside the main entrance definitely drew us in.
The casual set up in the school cafeteria/auditorium with folding chairs was a comfortable setting. Their Sunday bulleting was very professionally printed booklet with all the programs, announcements, and many of the congregational readings, etc. right in there.
The children stay with parents throughout the praise portion and then were dismissed into their classes. All of my three kids were in the same classroom along with other dozen or so kids and they went over catechism which my kids were introduced as a first time so they told me they were unable to follow the lessons clearly.
During the praise portion, we sang hymns led by a small band consists of 4 singers, drum, pianist, violin, bass, and trumbone (I think). And was followed by a message and then some announcements. The church will be moving its venue to Gunn High School's auditorium because they outgrew their current location.
We can definitely sense the liveliness of a church on the move here everyone expecting a greater works of God in their ministries. A young couple approached us right after the service introducing themselve as a newcomer to this area and found this church as their home because of the closely-knit community and the teachings they have received thus far.
